Hepatitis B Vaccine Guidance Update
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has recommended delaying the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine for infants until two months, provided the mother tests negative for the virus. This change has raised concerns among hepatitis experts. The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend administering the vaccine within 24 hours of birth. Despite the delay, the vaccine will still be covered by insurance.

Free Winter Reading Programs Launch in Sonoma County
Sonoma County Library invites families to join two seasonal programs: the Mock Caldecott, celebrating its 10th year, and the Winter Reading Challenge. Readers can vote for their favorite illustrated books from Dec. 1–Jan. 9, with winners announced Jan. 23. The Winter Reading Challenge begins Dec. 20—complete four activities in a row to earn a sticker and a chance to win a Regional Parks pass, or complete all 16 to earn a free book. Youth Services Administrator Kathy DeWeese says winter break offers families a chance to slow down and spark imagination. Families can also join the Imitate an Illustrator art series. Winter Magic Show with Magician Mike
Magician Mike brings a seasonal magic show to seven Sonoma County Library locations, celebrating winter’s shorter days, colder nights and traditions of light. Climate Series Screenings Come to Sonoma County Libraries
Sonoma County Library will host screenings of “Climate California,” the Emmy-winning PBS series exploring climate change through sound, wildlife and human resilience. Each event includes a discussion with series director Charles Loi, who offers insight into filming redwoods, electric planes and whales — and how tools like AI and big data help protect ecosystems. Screenings include Episode 2 (Dec. 17, 6–7:30 p.m.) and Episode 3 (Jan. 21, 6–7:30 p.m.) at Rohnert Park Cotati Library, and Episode 8 (Jan. 24, 1–2:30 p.m.) at Guerneville Library.
